It has been a crazy time with several projects not working out, and just a lot of downs and not many ups this year. SA has been doing most of the garden work and I really miss being out in the plants and soil, so am making an effort to get outside-even in the winter and work in the garden. It is so much a part of my creative inspiration. Only one more design event next weekend, here’s to hoping for a big, positive finish, with my art, before the Holidays.
So much rain, the leaves are falling, the weather is really crazy this week, it is making me a little edgy ( my sinuses are a wreck) and hard to get all my studio work completed.
It is interesting how, you can make a schedule, work to get everything done and everything changes. Trying to do several new things this year and all those typical things like weather, accidents get in the way. But I know I have to keep moving, and these little detours are will not stop me, just slow things down, or show a new direction, I might not have seen before.
My entry in the Bra Ha Ha event to raise money for womens’ breast health. You can see it and more creative and fun bras made by others from the Smithfield area at the Art Center @ 319. This creation was inspired by the persistant mother bird in my earlier post. Like in mother nature, we have to adapt, adjust, nurture and persist in helping all women have access to what they need for their health.
Even though it is winter I still love the soft, muted colors of the yard and garden. We have been talking and planning for some changes in the outdoor space for next year, slways on the look out for ways to make it more sustainable and add more food to the household. Looking forward to a the new year with many ideas. Hope you all have a fun New Years Eve! See you next year.
Earth Day happened this weekend, we weeded, and planted, and mulched all day Saturday and just made it in time for a full day of rain on Sunday. It was a so nice to work with the soil and fuss with the herbs and flowers. Now everything looks so bright and beautiful.
Today we spent the afternoon out in the wind and rain, while the boys were being filmed for a coming attraction “Dillzilla:Titan of Terror!” Elizabeth and her team were great.
A busy week coming up, and more classes to add to the schedule.
Fortunately I have had several sales of my silk painted scarves and shawls. While looking for color inspiration I found all these lovely items. Enjoy and have a great short week. The holidays are approaching ever more quckly.

Dirt in the ground is brown, leaves on trees are brown (not yet it’s still summer or maybe it’s an evergreen). Charlie Brown… no; Charlie bit my finger. Chocolate is brown… and brownies. Brown eyed girl… other “stuff that’s brown… Brown Is neutral… mix every other color and guess what you have now… I think I have a shirt that’s brown, and pants… and shoes, and…. Gray?
In preparing for my teen sewing workshops this week, I realized I am using several quilting techniques to teach the sewing skills. I have more of a beginner group this session and I have noticed that cutting and sewing straight and seam allowance can be tricky to get right and can make all the difference in fitting and putting final projects together. We are going to piece together some fabric and turn it into a large tote.
I am also putting together some pattern/templates to offer here. I have some fun ideas and hope you will enjoy.
This photo is and in process shot from a joint project I did with my friend Anne Baxter a while back. The final art quilt was damaged in the studio fire, but some good friends still purchased it for their baby room.
The Grass is green, green eggs and ham. Green Lantern… goes green because green is the new black? Green symbolizes self-respect and well being. Emerald green… they cost a lot of… “green” on St. Patrick’s Day…Green Day? Mold, lizards, moss, leaves… turn orange, red, and brown?
