Fabric Friday

I have really been into bold prints lately.  I like clean lines and a more modern style overall, but I will always love the prints.  And since I am a textile designer, I am always on the lookout for inspiration.  It seems like a lot of younger designers tend to go for solids and neutral colors, I was surprised to hear a Project Runway contestant say they had never used prints.

Marimekko has been around for a long time, and are have a great resurgence. The colors a huge prints are so great for fashion as well as home design. The are so mod and colorful but also fresh for today, we all need a little brightness in our stressful world these days..

What do you think?  Lets let our real personalities out.

The web sit crashed last week and everything was lost.  I am trying to get back in the swing of posting again.  Computers a love/hate relationship.

It is also time to plan for new designs (for spring next year), it gets a little mixed up since I am working on current items to send out while still keeping the new design ideas going.  This is a mood board I did a little while ago, and it is still a good reference for new colors and motifs.

I have been working on the spaces in my home.  Changing the way we use the rooms to be more useful to our needs, the way we live not necessarily the way they were planned.  I think most contractor houses built in all the subdivisions, in the last many years are based on a notion that everyone lives in the way a TV show or some designer thinks and that we all want to be the same.  We are not all alike, I have a huge garden tub in my bathroom that has been used only once in 8 years.  I have a tiny, parlor and formal dining room that was hardly ever used.  We have changed a lot and I will be showing some of the photos in the coming weeks.

I find it a little sad that if you live anywhere other than, a major city, or have a lot of money, we are expected to fit in a mold to suit someone else.  That is what being creative is all about, making your place work for you and your family, and make it looks a way that makes you feel like home.

Here is a little corner of my home.
