Birds are all around both indoors and out. I’m enjoying all the spring birds coming around to our little bird bath. My work has involved a lot of bird designs as well, most of it has been in applique and embroidery. I am currently working on having the designs printed on fabric yardage. It will be interesting to see where these new ideas and projects take me. Spring is bringing about several interesting changes. What is inspiring you these warmer days?
My blog has been nominated for a “Homie” over at Apartment Therapy. Please go over an vote, I would love to move up the page. Thanks, Angelia
Finished and new vest/tunic for myself. I found this unique fabric, and the design works with skirts or pants. I get inspired for clothing, is spurts, working on a top now, more for summer.
Do you have any weekend, craft/sewing projects going on?
I tend to fall in the trap of over planning, especially that we have a new year and all the experts and calenders, and filing systems come out to tell us how to get everything together for the new year. I have been in the inspiration/planning mode for a while. My design seem to work out best in a more free form way when I actually start to work. So, I just made a mood board and used that for my color/fabric inspiration. Now I am going to let the actual pieces flow from that. More images here.

My students have creating their own fabric design for a future project. We have been using stencils but I hope to bring in some other types of print materials in the future-block and screen printing and maybe some silk direct painting. Hand printing is very relevant in the arts and crafts world, and getting back to hand made items. I really hope the art students today will take these new ideas and bring some change in the mass produced items that have taken over.
When we create in my design business I like to think we are making quality items that can be the there for the future-we use natural fabric and real wood.
I love the combination of many different fabrics, the hand printing pulls it all together. Does anyone have any hand printing projects out there?
I design, fabric, clothing and accessories, I love color, but I for many years in my home and personal style, I always played it safe. My closet looks very brown. My house was taupe and a little teal. I the past 2 years my life changed in several ways and it has helped me see things differently, always waiting for the perfect can cause you to wait for ever.
So I recently bought an orange soft and beautiful bright floral print chair. My designs have gotten more bold and interesting. I found this company Bokja with the most amazing furniture, piecing many fabrics in many colors to remake some fabulous furniture.
In preparing for my teen sewing workshops this week, I realized I am using several quilting techniques to teach the sewing skills. I have more of a beginner group this session and I have noticed that cutting and sewing straight and seam allowance can be tricky to get right and can make all the difference in fitting and putting final projects together. We are going to piece together some fabric and turn it into a large tote.
I am also putting together some pattern/templates to offer here. I have some fun ideas and hope you will enjoy.
This photo is and in process shot from a joint project I did with my friend Anne Baxter a while back. The final art quilt was damaged in the studio fire, but some good friends still purchased it for their baby room.
The summer is hot, and fashion is hard in this weather, especially if you are over 25. No short skirt or shorts no halter tops. Since I work at home now, it is easy to let “comfortable” to into frump. I made a couple of things for the show, and now am working on some t-shirt restyles to wear while I work. Your family still sees you everyday.
Recently, I found this great web site “Advanced Style” show casing great creative style from women in NYC. The do have the luck of being in a big city, but I still think everyone should look stylish no matter who or where they are, it keeps you spirits up. My grandmother had great style in rural Kentucky. These ladies are wonderful, I hope I will be this great as the years come on.
