We had a great time at the MOCA show last weekend in Virginia Beach and thanks so much to Nancy and Brenda at Shooting Star Gallery in Cape Charles for hosting my trunk show this weekend. I have my work available now through the holidays at The Art Center @319 in Smithfield and Pop Shop By Jo Louise in Hilton (Newport News). Please contact me if you need any last minute gift ideas, I have some beautiful silk scarves and the big tote bags.
I will have an exciting new creative space opening in 2017 so looking forward to seeing you all there-(hint) Pigs Will Fly. Make sure you sign up for my newsletter to keep up with all the news and creative ideas.
A great chance to get some handmade gifts this weekend. J and I will be in downtown Norfolk with my shirts, bags and fabrics. This is my last show for the year, some of these items are leaving my inventory. Many other artisans will be there to showcase there work. Hope to see you there.
So many last minute details to get my class schedule as well as order ready. I like the combination of printing, applique, embroidery on my bags and pillows. One of the classes I am planning is a kind of fabric collage using these elements.
With the weather so nice, it is hard to stay indoors. The garden is calling me, maybe some hand sewing on the porch for now.
We have been really busy with preparations for the Wholesale Craft, ACRE show in Florida. This is the new fabric collection for the spring group, bags and pillows.
With the shopping season coming fast, I hope everyone will think about shopping a little different and support local and independent business. It is very inportant to help keep these places going, they are you friends and neighbors and Hampton Roads has much to offer. My work as well as many other creative gift ideas can be found at the following places.
I usually do not follow typical mainstream trends when it comes to my art work. I do look at web sites and magazines, but when I try to but fabric, they usually do not have what I am looking for. I print, applique, and embroidery on the fabric, but the base colors are what I need. It is interesting that several trends I recently read about, are already in my group. “Green” reclaimed, rescued materials, which I use in my wood tiles as well as fabric embellishments, and mustard yellow, and polka dots.
The web sit crashed last week and everything was lost. I am trying to get back in the swing of posting again. Computers a love/hate relationship.
It is also time to plan for new designs (for spring next year), it gets a little mixed up since I am working on current items to send out while still keeping the new design ideas going. This is a mood board I did a little while ago, and it is still a good reference for new colors and motifs.
We had good success at this summers BMAC wholesale show in Baltimore. One of my best orders was from “Home Goods/TJ Maxx” store, they are doing an all U.S. made in store section, this fall and selected a set of my reclaimed wood tiles to showcase. Very exciting, but very short deadline, so a lot of painting in the next few weeks.
