So much going on around here, life and work. I am working on new design ideas as well as techniques for fabric. There is a book that I always like to refer to when I feel stuck or need a little technique refresher, the book is “The Surface Designer’s Handbook” by Holly Brackmann. I recommend it to anyone who would like an overview in adding color and design to textiles. It offer some very good technical information with a lot of step by step and finished product photos.
I have a silk painting workshop coming up in Smithfield at the Art Center@319, contact them to register. This is a day long class at the new location of Isle of Wight Arts League we will learn and practice several techniques and complete several samples and a finished silk scarf. The class size is limited due to space, so sign up early to try out this beautiful art form. It has been a couple of years since I offered this class, so I look forward to working with everyone.
It is a beautiful day for the first day of spring. I do love this time of year, the sun is not so hot and all the new greens shoots and flower buds. I hope to get out in the sun, if only the pollen would not be here, it is so early, but at least the pines dust will be gone earlier.
I have to get my work orders finished, I have some garden/yard work to do this year. It helps me relax.
With the surprise of early warm weather I guess it is time to find something to wear. The spring/summer clothing selections are not the best for me. I don’t like to show my weird legs, and really don’t look good in or especially like carpi pants anyway, so the other selections are usually limited. Long dresses and skirts are good, and can be easy to make.
These are great layered looks, I have always been a fan of separates to mix and match, and great color.

With the shopping season coming fast, I hope everyone will think about shopping a little different and support local and independent business. It is very inportant to help keep these places going, they are you friends and neighbors and Hampton Roads has much to offer. My work as well as many other creative gift ideas can be found at the following places.
Fortunately I have had several sales of my silk painted scarves and shawls. While looking for color inspiration I found all these lovely items. Enjoy and have a great short week. The holidays are approaching ever more quckly.

Pottery and ceramics are always inspiring. I so appreciate what artist that work in clay create. I cannot do anything in that media, I have tried a few times but it is not me. My work in in textiles so I will keep to it. I met this artist at a show in February and love the texture and color she conveys in her work. It does remind me of piecing and quilting that I do in some of my work.
