I am finally getting some shots of this fabric group. I have a new quilt pattern I am working on and this is the fabric I was able to use on of my print designs as well as the commercial fabrics. The yellow is not a color I use that often, but I do like it with the black, cream, and grey. I have a couple of yards of the “Round and Round” print left and will have it available in my shop soon.
Birds are all around both indoors and out. I’m enjoying all the spring birds coming around to our little bird bath. My work has involved a lot of bird designs as well, most of it has been in applique and embroidery. I am currently working on having the designs printed on fabric yardage. It will be interesting to see where these new ideas and projects take me. Spring is bringing about several interesting changes. What is inspiring you these warmer days?
So many last minute details to get my class schedule as well as order ready. I like the combination of printing, applique, embroidery on my bags and pillows. One of the classes I am planning is a kind of fabric collage using these elements.
With the weather so nice, it is hard to stay indoors. The garden is calling me, maybe some hand sewing on the porch for now.
I have a new order for pillows and pouches. It is for a great place in Florida called the C.R.O.W. Clinic it is a wildlife rehabilitation facility. So, you know they want the bird art on all the items. Chickadees, Egrets and Owls are calling my name.
I have also started a new quilt project, with dye/printed fabrics. This is leading up to some new classes and workshops coming soon.
How is your week starting out? What projects do you have going on?
This past year has been a tough one. I am so looking forward to the New 2012. In planning and reviewing my work I have been a little chaotic in the collections, I guess as part of the mixed up year I have had, but the current group is really coming together.
So, what was your year about? I will see you all for a fresh start.
I love this designer Gudrun Sjoden, so colorful, comfortable and stylish. She uses models of all types and ages and her company in “green.” I have been working in black/white with pops of color so I love the tunic look in the top photo. The jacket below is a perfect example of Kantha style quilting. My students are working on a piece using this technique. I am looking at making a light coat jacket this year, this one is a great inspiration.
I design, fabric, clothing and accessories, I love color, but I for many years in my home and personal style, I always played it safe. My closet looks very brown. My house was taupe and a little teal. I the past 2 years my life changed in several ways and it has helped me see things differently, always waiting for the perfect can cause you to wait for ever.
So I recently bought an orange soft and beautiful bright floral print chair. My designs have gotten more bold and interesting. I found this company Bokja with the most amazing furniture, piecing many fabrics in many colors to remake some fabulous furniture.
My design students will be creating mood/inspiration boards this week for a pillow project. My aim is to help them understand all that goes into making an item, not just the sewing. This week we are studying color theory as it relates to interior design and decorating.
I love this board, a simple color combination, but can withstand the test of time.
