Mood Monday

In prepartaion for the Holidays, I need to clean and rework my spaces, to decorate and for visitors.  I think I need to make an inspiration board.  With so many things going on, it helps me to have a visal plan.

Off to another busy week, here with deliveries and all.  What is going on with you, the season is near?

This is a beautiful mood board.

Fashion and Fabric Friday

I love this designer Gudrun Sjoden, so colorful, comfortable and stylish.  She uses models of all types and ages and her company in “green.”  I have been working in black/white with pops of color so I love the tunic look in the top photo. The jacket below is a perfect example of Kantha style quilting.  My students are working on a piece using this technique.   I am looking at making a light coat jacket this year,  this one is a great inspiration.

Health and Fitness

Photo: Steve Armstrong

This photo is a sample of what our area looks like.

At the start of a new week, I review my health and fitness goals and plans.  It has been a little tough the last few weeks, the very wet weather and all the fungi and pollen really drags me down.  I have been able to get my diet more together, no wheat or dairy, the only thing left to reduce is sugar, the hardest for me.  I have started to feel lighter and sleeping is much better.  My exercise has been lax-just can’t get myself out and walk in the rain-so I have joined the YMCA for the fall/winter months.  I feel I need that extra support, the classes and equipment to increase my workouts.  A time and life go by it gets harder and harder to loose weight as well as keep the body from falling apart-I see it in my relatives, so just trying to get a head start.

Inspiration

Pottery and ceramics are always inspiring.  I so appreciate what artist that work in clay create.  I cannot do anything in that media, I have tried a few times but it is not me.  My work in in textiles so I will keep to it.  I met this artist at a show in February and love the texture and color she conveys in her work.  It does remind me of piecing and quilting that I do in some of my work.

Summers End

There is light, we finally have power back on at home.  It was a tough few days, the humidity and sleeping were the worst for me, but all in all we just had a lot of clean up and no major damage.  It is funny the things that you miss, the iron.  I tried to keep busy and cut out fabric, but it usually needs to be ironed before, so I did a little planning and some new design ideas.

Busy the next few days, getting ready for teaching and all, funny it seems the storm kind of ended summer early.

Living/Working Spaces

In doing some research for a new shed in our back yard, I found some unique design ideas.  I wanted something interesting that would be functional as well as add to the landscape.  There are many local places that do the traditional barn or colonial type sheds.  I have always had a modern esthetic, so, as my family knew already, I could not find anything I liked.  So I started planning something the boys could build.  I came across a company site and I love their little “studio” type sheds.

These prefab sheds are environmentally friendly and can be finished inside.

Since I am designing my own I can customize it for my use and I can use found/reclaimed materials, to keep cost down.  It is going to be for storage, but with the right windows and location in the yard, I could totally work on design in these little buildings.

Now I just need few more sales to meet my little studio budget.  I will be opening my on line store again in September, with some great handmade gift items for the fall/holiday season.
