We had a great time at the MOCA show last weekend in Virginia Beach and thanks so much to Nancy and Brenda at Shooting Star Gallery in Cape Charles for hosting my trunk show this weekend. I have my work available now through the holidays at The Art Center @319 in Smithfield and Pop Shop By Jo Louise in Hilton (Newport News). Please contact me if you need any last minute gift ideas, I have some beautiful silk scarves and the big tote bags.
I will have an exciting new creative space opening in 2017 so looking forward to seeing you all there-(hint) Pigs Will Fly. Make sure you sign up for my newsletter to keep up with all the news and creative ideas.
Almost ready to leave for the Buyers Market of American Craft show. Why do I always get so many ideas at the last minute? So many things I still want to create. #phillybmac
I am painting plaids. Planning a quilt for J and looking for plaid fabrics, surprisingly, not many interesting ones available. My plan is to paint the designs on silk scarves then, use the ones that work for this project and turn them into “screens” for printing on cotton.
Really like these plaid stairs found them at Matters of Style.
Another plaid-not the colors for J but an interesting interpretation.
This look reminds me of my work clothes when I had a job at the mining company in Kentucky. I really this and it makes me smile to think I was in style in my old construction clothes, low crotch and all. Jeans today are so fake, pretend matching holes or fade spots on $100 pants, that make you look just like everyone else. I fondly remember pair I wore for years until the fades and holes came naturally and they were just mine…
This is one of the new design I just finished for a rather large hand printed fabric order. I was interesting to translate a small square piece of collage work into yardage of fabric. It did give me a lot of inspiration for future designs. I am currently doing a lot of “playing” with surface design, and will soon have some 1/2 yards and fat quarters on line for sale.
So much going on around here, life and work. I am working on new design ideas as well as techniques for fabric. There is a book that I always like to refer to when I feel stuck or need a little technique refresher, the book is “The Surface Designer’s Handbook” by Holly Brackmann. I recommend it to anyone who would like an overview in adding color and design to textiles. It offer some very good technical information with a lot of step by step and finished product photos.
