New York Fashion Week, brings a lot of interesting things in Fashion. The things that we as regular people will see in the future, but much more cheaply made in quality and price. I find a lot of inspiration in the images online, even though it is almost impossible to actually go to any of the events. Being a independent designer, I market my work in a different way, but I feel I need to bring a little more of the show stuff into my promotion.
A trend this fall is related to collage, mixed fabrics. I have always love mixing prints, I guess my quilting background. Here are two of my favorite designers Dries Van Noten and Etro. I think I need to mix it up a little.
I have many collage/mixed media artist friends, what do you think of fashions version of collage?

Pottery and ceramics are always inspiring. I so appreciate what artist that work in clay create. I cannot do anything in that media, I have tried a few times but it is not me. My work in in textiles so I will keep to it. I met this artist at a show in February and love the texture and color she conveys in her work. It does remind me of piecing and quilting that I do in some of my work.

The color Purple… blue and red… no, purple. Purple eats people, um no… “coughBarneyscough” no… Eggplants, just larger versions of grapes!… yeah… no. I just twitched and smacked my leg on my desk… no? All the flowers are dying… some purple some not… Amethyst… my shirt… Haze… many others…
It is amazing, as you get older how quickly you can get out of shape and how hard it is to get back on track. Back in March I began working out and watching my diet, I lost 10 pounds, was starting to feel better. I was doing yoga and we had the Wii dance game and I did that every evening. Some how I injured my shoulder, a one point I could hardly life my arm. I stopped, it was so sad I couldn’t get myself to do anything, and I ate a lot of food, crazy food, I usually never eat. In the last two months I have gained back even more weight and feel terrible, and depressed.
This week I finally started moving again. The crazy food is gone for three days so far, but it is a challenge to stay on track. Today I feel a little more like my old self, so that is a good sign, and I am writing it down so maybe I can anticipate the stress that so easily derails my plans. Exercise is something that I know I need to feel right, keeping it going is where I struggle, I have to do it now it so important.
We started our fall season schedule. Since we home school and Z does community college, we have a different schedule than a regular school day. The days are planned and it has a different feel than summer. I have several looming deadlines so it is good for me with more structure.
I am always so inspired by fall colors, so I have ideas flying around in my head, just need to finish my current orders, so the new work can materialize.
Teaching at RSA doesn’t start until the 12th, look forward to seeing all my new students, we have a lot of interesting projects this year.
Hope all the students and teachers of every kind have a great school year.
Rusty coins… rusty metals… It’s sort of a brown, but not really. Rusted gutters… Rusted Root, ol rusted out car… Rusty nail… this is becoming rusty…
There is light, we finally have power back on at home. It was a tough few days, the humidity and sleeping were the worst for me, but all in all we just had a lot of clean up and no major damage. It is funny the things that you miss, the iron. I tried to keep busy and cut out fabric, but it usually needs to be ironed before, so I did a little planning and some new design ideas.
Busy the next few days, getting ready for teaching and all, funny it seems the storm kind of ended summer early.

Well, it is the calm before the storm here, and everyone is a little antsy. That is one of the unique things about a Hurricane, you have a lot of time to prepare and discuss and wait. We are ready, but you never know exactly what you need to be ready for. We are near enough to the coast to get a big part of the storm but far enough away to not have to evacuate. Our biggest issue is wind, we have a lot of trees. Next will be the loss of power, not looking forward to many nights of sleeping in the Southern August humidity and trying to keep the food situation together, it is a good way to use up all the things in your freezer, on the grill.
I am trying to keep some work going as well, still have deadlines to meet, but it seems like a time to just be, a do have my book light all charged up.
