This photo is a sample of what our area looks like.
At the start of a new week, I review my health and fitness goals and plans. It has been a little tough the last few weeks, the very wet weather and all the fungi and pollen really drags me down. I have been able to get my diet more together, no wheat or dairy, the only thing left to reduce is sugar, the hardest for me. I have started to feel lighter and sleeping is much better. My exercise has been lax-just can’t get myself out and walk in the rain-so I have joined the YMCA for the fall/winter months. I feel I need that extra support, the classes and equipment to increase my workouts. A time and life go by it gets harder and harder to loose weight as well as keep the body from falling apart-I see it in my relatives, so just trying to get a head start.
I have been seeing so many circle and dot motifs lately, in fashion, craft, home decor. I use this round element in my design a lot, I just love how it looks, dots and stripes as well.
I found this rug images it is from Free People shop and it reminded my how much I miss doing store displays, but I realized you can do design in your home, and I have a class of design students that could use some of these techniques. It also relate to my earlier post bring color into my lift.
This could translate into many things, wall art, table mats, etc. What can you do with this rope coiling concept?
I design, fabric, clothing and accessories, I love color, but I for many years in my home and personal style, I always played it safe. My closet looks very brown. My house was taupe and a little teal. I the past 2 years my life changed in several ways and it has helped me see things differently, always waiting for the perfect can cause you to wait for ever.
So I recently bought an orange soft and beautiful bright floral print chair. My designs have gotten more bold and interesting. I found this company Bokja with the most amazing furniture, piecing many fabrics in many colors to remake some fabulous furniture.
I delivered some reclaimed wood tiles to Shooting Star Gallery for their 15th Anniversary Event this week. The art/craft world is tough and to be able to keep it going so long is a real tribute to the owner Photographer Brenda Wright.
There is a reception on Saturday September 24, 2001, 4-6pm., so all you local arts and crafters come and check out the work of several local artist including Sam Glasscock and Betsy Brothers.
118 North Main Street, Downtown Suffolk, VA.
My design students will be creating mood/inspiration boards this week for a pillow project. My aim is to help them understand all that goes into making an item, not just the sewing. This week we are studying color theory as it relates to interior design and decorating.
I love this board, a simple color combination, but can withstand the test of time.

New York Fashion Week, brings a lot of interesting things in Fashion. The things that we as regular people will see in the future, but much more cheaply made in quality and price. I find a lot of inspiration in the images online, even though it is almost impossible to actually go to any of the events. Being a independent designer, I market my work in a different way, but I feel I need to bring a little more of the show stuff into my promotion.
A trend this fall is related to collage, mixed fabrics. I have always love mixing prints, I guess my quilting background. Here are two of my favorite designers Dries Van Noten and Etro. I think I need to mix it up a little.
I have many collage/mixed media artist friends, what do you think of fashions version of collage?

Pottery and ceramics are always inspiring. I so appreciate what artist that work in clay create. I cannot do anything in that media, I have tried a few times but it is not me. My work in in textiles so I will keep to it. I met this artist at a show in February and love the texture and color she conveys in her work. It does remind me of piecing and quilting that I do in some of my work.

It is amazing, as you get older how quickly you can get out of shape and how hard it is to get back on track. Back in March I began working out and watching my diet, I lost 10 pounds, was starting to feel better. I was doing yoga and we had the Wii dance game and I did that every evening. Some how I injured my shoulder, a one point I could hardly life my arm. I stopped, it was so sad I couldn’t get myself to do anything, and I ate a lot of food, crazy food, I usually never eat. In the last two months I have gained back even more weight and feel terrible, and depressed.
This week I finally started moving again. The crazy food is gone for three days so far, but it is a challenge to stay on track. Today I feel a little more like my old self, so that is a good sign, and I am writing it down so maybe I can anticipate the stress that so easily derails my plans. Exercise is something that I know I need to feel right, keeping it going is where I struggle, I have to do it now it so important.
